Cloudy Saturday Morning

Some updates from around the house.

We moved our desks so they are facing each other. It takes up more space but in an odd way I think it is a smarter way to utilize the space here. It divides up the room in a better way than before.

The pictures below were taken by Adam's grandpa. These two pictures are my favorites!
I have my complete physical exam coming up this week so Adam's been my sometimes uncooperative patient.
The picture on the left is an art print I bought from a site online that specializes in making art affordable by producing varying sizes. It's a pretty painting of candy-like abstract shapes and colors. On the left, I framed the placemat from one of the restaurants we ate at in Banff. It's really a cool placemat; it's hand drawn with tons of philosophical quotes worked into it. It's interesting to look at, plus it is associated with a good memory.

And of course it wouldn't really be our home without a giant life-size poster of our favorite hockey player.
Prayer charms Sophie brought me from a trip to Mexico.
We also rearranged the bedroom. I think this is a better use of space also.
That's about all. I have serious studying to do again this weekend. Adam is gone today for training. He is trying out a job selling Cutco knives, although it is not door-to-door. He sets up appointments with people he gets referred to. We are a bit skeptical about how much money this will actually bring in, but since we have some savings right now he wants to give it his best shot and see if it will bring in enough money until next fall when he wants to start school again. So we'll see!

I had my doctor's appointment yesterday and she noted my thyroid was a bit enlarged, and since she pointed it out I can't stop touching it. It isn't alarmingly big, but it is big enough that it is definitely different than it was before. I can feel the isthmus easily, which wasn't true before. Anyway I got blood drawn for labs so we'll see. I had some trouble with insurance though. I am supposed to be covered by the student health plan of course, but when I tried to refill my prescriptions the pharmacy told me my plan number had been cancelled! Of course I am out of citalopram so I hope I don't get the brain zaps (is that really what happens Papa?) until Monday when I can sort this out. Risk Management, which handles the student plans, was closed on Friday at 1 pm, and the pharmacy closed at 4 (which is when I was there) so essentially there was nothing I could do unless I wanted to pay $100 out of pocket. I am sure it is some kind of error since there is no reason I should not be covered, and I plan on giving Risk Management a piece of my mind on Monday. This sort of thing shouldn't happen! I know SDAs like to quit early on Fridays but 1pm? Really? That seems ridiculously early to close.

Oh well. That is about all of the news from around here!

  3. Be suprised when you DON'T have problems with insurance. Dealing with these companies is a pain. As a doctor, you'll see that they spare no effort to make things difficult for patient and doc alike. Actually worse for the doc as they will attempt to increase the hassle factor whenever you'd like to do something that costs more than an aspirin. You'll feel like Joan of Arc each time you vary from "guidelines for care."

Let us know what comes of the thyroid tests. If function is low, then getting that addressed should give you a real boost in energy; like a second pot of coffee!

  4. Tell Adam that with his big charm and friendliness, I'm sure he will do well with Cutco. I have bought something from them before. Can I buy some knives from him?

btw, what kind of plant is it in the top picture? Looks like carrots.
