Yummy! Tofu Dengaku would be a perfect addition to temaki. We had it tonight and liked it. Super easy. Cover a cookie sheet with foil and spray pam. Microwave tofu for 3 min. or so to take out moisture. cut in half and slice in third. (or whatever. You just need some flat surface of tofu.) mix sugar, miso, water, mirin to make thin paste. baste tofu. broil in oven for 5 min. or so. Turn over. Broil again till miso is dry and a little more brown.
That tofu dengaku WAS good tonight. Koko, dengaku was famous in the Mt Aso area of Kumamoto. I'm sure you were too young to remember it, but we once had dengaku at an old traditional restaurant there with Nanami-chan and her parents. It is traditionally eaten on skewers, such as in this photo...http://www.flickr.com/photos/freshcoast/3103779561/sizes/l/in/photostream/
