This Weekend

Friday night we spent separately with our respective friends. Saturday, Adam wanted to go hiking, so we went up to Big Bear and hiked part of the Pacific Crest Trail. It was beautiful!

Favorite trail food: onigiri!

As always I found a rock or two to add to my collection, but THIS. This glorious piece of wood I needed to take home with me. As we were hiking back, we passed a guy who said, in a tired sounding voice, "Oh, you're going to take that back, huh?" I was about to snap back, "why yes, yes I am," when I realized he was talking to his dog, who also had found a stick he liked the look of. So, you know, great minds think alike or something. Anyway, this piece of wood is a fantastic piece of art for that bare space above the toilet tank.
Onigiri Mountain.
Then we came home, got cleaned up, and went to Red Robin, so thank you for that! We ended the night by watching "The Good, Bad, and the Ugly" which was an excellent movie. The world needs more Clint Eastwoods!

  1. That's funny, Koko. I was wondering if Adam's backpack was full of rocks you found.

    The onigiri looks great!

Last night we were at the Maynards with the McKinneys for an Easter egg hunt in the dark and Matt and I were starting to make plans for trips with the boys this summer. And today's paper had an article about the three national parks within a day's drive from here, Glacier, Yellowstone, and Tetons. Glad you guys are able to get out and enjoy it.

Glad you're getting in good shape for hiking in Glacier this summer!

  2. The man talking to the dog was funny! But above the toilet tank?!! Couldn't you find more glorious place for the glorious wood? By the way, if you drop a umeboshi or a little vinegar when you cook rice, onigiri keeps longer. It's supposed to kill germs. You can't taste vinegar when you eat it. If you use salan wrap to shape onigiri, instead of your bare hands, it's better, too. In warm climate, you may want to be careful. I think that's why people put umeboshi in the middle.
BTW, the apple dumpling was not good. soggy bottom. disappointing.
